What are the requirements for becoming a security guard in state of California?

1. Age: You must be at least 18 years old.

2. Citizenship: You must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident alien.

3. Education: You must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

4. Training: You must complete a security guard training course approved by the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS).

5. Experience: You must have at least one year of experience as a security guard or in a related field.

6. Criminal Record: You must not have been convicted of a felony or any crime involving dishonesty, violence, or drugs.

7. Physical Fitness: You must be able to pass a physical fitness test.

The BSIS offers two different levels of security guard certification: Level I and Level II. Level I certification is for unarmed security guards, and Level II certification is for armed security guards.

To obtain Level I certification, you will need to complete a 40-hour training course and pass a written exam and a physical fitness test.

To obtain Level II certification, you will need to complete an additional 20 hours of training and pass a written exam and a live-fire shooting test.

Once you have obtained your security guard certification, you will need to register with the BSIS and pay an annual fee.
