Value of a 10 Bolívares (Banco Central de Venezuela) Banknote
As of 2024, it is essentially worthless as currency.
Current Value
- Face Value: 10 Bolívares (VES) — **old "Soberano" series (2018) or "Digital" (2021)**.
- USD Value: **<$0.001** (less than 1/10 of a cent).
- Black Market/Parallel Rate: ~**36–38 VES/USD** → 10 VES ≈ **$0.27–0.28** — *but you cannot exchange at this rate; no one buys small denomination cash*.
Why?
- Hyperinflation: Venezuela's currency has lost **>99.9999% value since 2013**.
- Redenominations:** 2008 (VEF, -3 zeros), 2018 (VES, -5 zeros), 2021 (VED, -6 zeros, digital). The 10 VES note is from the **2018 series** — already obsolete.
- Cash Scarcity:** Physical bolívares are rare; economy is **dollarized (USD cash, Zelle, bank transfers)** or uses **digital bolívares (VED)** via apps (Biipago, Banco de Venezuela).
- Collector Value Only: On eBay/Etsy, **uncirculated notes sell for $2–$10** as novelties. Circulated = $0.50–$1.
Practical Advice
- **In Venezuela:** Use **USD cash (small bills)** or **digital payments (Zelle, PagoMóvil, Binance Pay)**. Do not accept bolívares cash.
- **Outside:** Keep as **souvenir / teaching tool** — "what hyperinflation looks like."
