Can you spend dollars in Nigeria?

The local currency of Nigeria is the Naira (NGN). Foreign currencies, including the US Dollar, are not considered legal tender in Nigeria and cannot be used to make payments for goods and services or settle any financial transactions. You can, however, exchange foreign currencies for Naira at authorized foreign exchange bureaus upon presentation of a valid means of identification and appropriate documentation. Using foreign currencies in Nigeria without going through official exchange channels is illegal.
