What are the latest laws on purchase of ephedrine in Alabama?

Alabama Ephedrine Laws

Under the provisions of the Alabama State Legislature (see Chapter 19A of the _Code of Alabama_, Title 20), the sale of pseudoephedrine has been limited to behind-the-counter sales that include a mandatory "log" in which purchasers' information must be recorded for all sales of pseudoephedrine. However, since this legislation does not list ephedrine as a restricted substance, it can still be purchased in Alabama in quantities equal to or less than eight grams.

To further clarify:

- Pseudoephedrine may not be sold across state lines.

- A record of the following must be kept for any amount of pseudoephedrine sold:

- The purchaser’s name and driver's license number.

- The date and time of the sale.

- The quantity of pseudoephedrine sold.

- The maximum amount that may be purchased daily is 3.6 grams of pseudoephedrine

- Within any given thirty day period, the maximum total amount of pseudoephedrine that can be purchased is seven grams.

- Individuals under the age of 18 may not purchase pseudoephedrine.

As long as the amounts do not exceed the maximum of eight grams of ephedrine, however, the substance is not legally regulated.
