How to Compare Alaska Cruises

Searching for an Alaskan cruise--or any cruise for that matter--can be a daunting task. With the overwhelming number of cruise lines and ships, each offering their own amenities, itineraries, cost structures and activities, the possibilities can seem endless. However, several websites make this task easier by allowing you to effortlessly compare your options. After all, searching for a cruise should be fun, not stressful.
  1. Vacation Websites

    • Several websites allow you to search for and compare a wide array of Alaskan cruises. Vacations to Go is a popular website where you can search for cruises based on a number of options. If you are not overly specific about the type of cruise you would like to take then you can simply search for Alaskan cruises in the "choose a region" box of the search page and leave the rest of the fields blank. Alternatively, you can narrow your search by specifying a date range, cruise line, cruise ship, length of cruise, departure port and/or places to visit. Once you submit your search you can easily organize your results by clicking on one of the headings. For example, if you want to compare prices you can click on the heading "Our Starting Price" and your results will be re-ordered in terms of cost from lowest to highest. If you want to reverse the list--from highest to lowest--simply click on the heading again. When you click on a cruise in your results page it will show you the itinerary for that cruise, prices of the various rooms, a link to more information about the specific cruise line and ship, and links to information on each port the ship visits.

    Cruise Line Websites

    • If you know the cruise line you would like to travel with--or if you have narrowed down your options to just a few--you can visit the cruise line's web page and compare cruises offered by that company. For example, on the Carnival website's homepage there is a search box allowing you to search for cruises based on the time you would like to leave, where you would like to leave from, which ports you would like to visit and how long you would like your cruise to be. If you are undecided about some or all of these options you can simply click on "Alaska" in the destination box and leave the rest of the fields blank. Your results will be displayed in a list format allowing you to easily compare your options.

    Cruise Message Boards

    • Some message boards focus solely on cruising. Cruise Critic has more than a hundred message boards with thousands of visitors a day who offer advice and provide reviews on cruise lines, ships and ports. Here you will find a message board specifically for Alaskan cruises where you can read through reviews and feedback from Cruise Critic members or you can post a question in the forum asking specific questions about the various cruises. There is also a separate message board for each of the major cruise lines so if you already know which company you would like to travel with you can search for posts or ask questions in that specific forum.
