Cheap Hotels in Cripple Creek, Colorado

You can find two things on the streets of Cripple Creek, Colorado: casinos and wild burros. The Cripple Creek website for this historic mining town lists 14 casinos and high stakes betting limits. Also dwelling among Cripple Creek's population of 1,000 people, as reported by City Data, are wild burros left by miners long ago during the gold rush. Accommodations in town range from hotels in restored buildings to less expensive motels, and most are clustered along Highway 67.

    • The Double Eagle Hotel houses a modern casino and large conference facility along with its 158 guestrooms. Save money with the free parking facility and complimentary valet service. Visitors will find six room types available, ranging from standard accommodations to presidential suites, with room rates for the standard rooms $90 to $100 as of 2011.

      With two restaurants, three bars and a deli, you can find dining options on site. More restaurant selections are available nearby, including Maggie's Restaurant, Johnny Nolon's Casino and the Anchor Moon Grill, all less than a block away. The Double Eagle Hotel is the closest hotel to the Cripple Creek and Victor Narrow Gauge Railroad. The steam engine leaves from the original depot, which was built in 1894, for a scenic tour to the mining camp of Anaconda.

    Cripple Creek Hospitality House

    • The Cripple Creek Hospitality House was constructed in 1901 as a hospital for the booming mining town, and it has since been restored to its original Victorian glory and offers 17 guestrooms. Each room has its own personality, featuring distinctive linens and decorations, but not all have private baths. Rates start from $48 a night for a single room and a shared bath, to $109 for a room with two queen beds, four guests and a private bathroom. All rates are as of 2011 and include a continental breakfast.

      This hotel is located four blocks from Bennett Avenue, and even though it is close enough to walk to the downtown district, its more isolated location town can contribute to a quieter experience. The front of the hotel features a large lawn with shade trees; however, an RV park is located in the rear of the property.

    Hotel St. Nicholas

    • The cheapest time of year to stay at the Hotel St. Nicholas is from November 1 through May 14, when their prices lower for the off-season. Complimentary breakfast is also included in the room price, which starts at $76 as of 2011. Enjoy a drink and a light meal in the eclectic Boiler Room Tavern. The hotel borders Cripple Creek and features an outdoor patio nearby, and on the rooftop guests can enjoy an outdoor whirlpool hot tub with views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

      The Hotel St. Nicholas is two blocks off the Bennett Avenue intersection with the most casinos. According to the Cripple Creek website, eight casinos are clustered near Bennett and Third. The hotel is also two blocks away from the outdoor amphitheater at The Gold Rush Palladium.
