Cheap Hotels in Algona, Iowa

Algona, Iowa is a small town of approximately six thousand residents. The town has had a colorful history, taking in over 100 orphans from the Orphan Train projects of the 1890s, maintaining a German prisoner-of-war camp during World War II, and surviving a severe tornado that killed two people in 1979. Today it's a sleepy hamlet with three inexpensive hotels for those passing through.
  1. Super 8 Motel

    • Found on the north side of town on Norwood Drive, Algona's Super 8 is a low-cost way to spend the night. The hotel provides free breakfast and high-speed Internet, and includes both smoking and non-smoking accommodations. Rooms with both queen and double beds are available, with prices approximating $50 per night (as of January 2011).

    AmericInn Lodge & Suites

    • For those willing to pay a little extra for a somewhat more upscale experience, AmericInn on Highway 18 next to the Algona Municipal Airport is the destination of choice. The cheapest rooms are $89 per night with two queen beds, or double beds in handicap-accessible rooms. Prices and amenities range upwards to the $140 two-room suite with a king bed and Jacuzzi. The hotel includes a pool and allows pets.

    Burr Oak Motel

    • Though not part of a hotel chain like Algona's other two places of lodging, the Burr Oak Motel offers an inexpensive alternative a short distance south of town on 120th Avenue. Though a single-story old-fashioned motel, the building is far enough from the road to allow a quiet night's sleep. Pets are allowed and free Internet is included. Prices range roughly $50 to $60 per night.
