Plan ahead and find a countryside lodging in a place that doesn't get much February business, and will thus have reasonable rates; don't be afraid to negotiate either. You could also consider camping if your partner is a serious nature lover not adverse to "roughing it," but otherwise such a rustic escape might be a hard sell.
Agree to skip the gift exchange this year, as the trip will be your gift to each other. Or create something romantic for each other-such as a personal poem or handicraft.
Go someplace close by, which will cut back on gas, wear and tear on your car, and other traveling expenses. It's amazing how even traveling a few hours away can really take you away from it all.
