The model for the all-inclusive vacation originated back in the 1950s with Club Med. Founded by Gerald Blitz, Club Med started off as a non-profit "socialist camp." In the 1960s Club Med dropped its non-profit status and took off as a hedonistic escape for vacationers. Quickly, other resorts followed this business model, with companies, such as Sandals establishing themselves as a resort for couples only. Today, there are all-inclusive vacations designed around a large number of interests, such as diving or an interest in art or history.
Your typical all-inclusive vacation will include accommodation, hotel transfers, all meals, including soft drinks and beers and wine (some resorts will also include mixed drinks), tips and activities, such as use of the gym, kayaking or even scuba diving. However, there are also a number of things not included in an all-inclusive, such as spa services, premium brand alcohol, tours and airfare.
Would you prefer paying all your fees up front and not worry about money while you vacation? Some people prefer that, while others prefer to be more flexible. Above all, you will want to make sure you pick the right all-inclusive for you. Research the vacation packages before booking your trip. In the past, all-inclusive vacations have been associated with less desirable accommodations, and poor quality meals and drinks. While that is not typically the case today, it is still important to research the all-inclusive package and be sure you know precisely what is included before booking.
