Lighthouse Bed & Breakfast in Michigan

Known as the Great Lakes State, Michigan has115 lighthouses along the coastline, however only a few were converted into bed and breakfast inns or other living quarters on the premises. While exploring the coastline and historical lighthouses, you will experience some of inns that are on the National Registry of Historic Places.
  1. Lighthouse Inns

    • Michigan has three lighthouse inns along Lake Superior and the Keweenaw Peninsula. The Sand Hills Lighthouse and Inn, the largest of the Great Lakes lighthouses, opened as in inn in 1995 with eight Victorian guestrooms, views of the Northern Lights and a homemade breakfast each morning at 9:30 a.m. The Big Bay Point Lighthouse Bed and Breakfast and the Jacobsville Lighthouse Inn also offer secluded views and boat tours of Keweenaw Bay.

    Crew Quarters

    • At the Whitefish Point Light Station in Paradise, you may stay in the crew quarters of the lighthouse from April to mid-November. You will stayed in restored 1923 Coast Guard's crew quarters, with your choice of five rooms, offering queen or double beds and views of the woods or passing ships on the lake. In the morning, enjoy fresh coffee and a continental breakfast, before exploring the rest of the light station or the Great Lakes Shipwreck Station, also included in your overnight rate.

    Lighthouse Gatekeeper

    • At the DeTour Reef Lighthouse on Drummond Island, you can sign up to be a lighthouse keeper for a weekend. During that time, you will reside in modest accommodations and assist with giving tours of the lighthouse. You will gaze at more than 20 ships a day and see colorful sunsets during your stay, which may compensate for the work you will be doing.
