Romantic Vacations in Pennsylvania

Known for the gritty steel mills of Pittsburgh, its beautiful natural resources and the historical legacy of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania offers thousands of attractions and activities for any taste or age. However, the state also attracts couples looking for romantic getaways or newlyweds on their honeymoons as the state is home to a quaint Amish country, the grand Pocono mountain range and lovely natural scenery of the Laurel Highlands.
  1. Lancaster County

    • With a large Amish population, covered bridges and endless antique shopping opportunities, Lancaster County offers perfect romantic getaways for couples. The most popular antiquing areas are in the small towns of the county including Intercourse and Bird-in-Hand. Along Route 30, visitors will also find outlet malls with high end boutiques and shops. Among the Amish attractions are buggy rides, tours and the Amish Village in the small town of Ronks.

The county is also home to many fine romantic dining options including the Historic Revere Tavern in Paradise, Gibraltar in Lancaster and the Cameron Estate Inn & Restaurant in Mount Joy.

While their are many hotel options, the county is more well known for the great bed and breakfast establishments in the area such as the Susquehanna Manor Bed & Breakfast in Marietta, Candlelight Inn Bed & Breakfast in Ronks, and the Hollinger House Bed & Breakfast in Lancaster.

    The Poconos

    • With over 150 lakes, ski ranges and beautiful resorts, the Poconos host thousands of couples and newlyweds ever year. Covering four counties in northeastern Pennsylvania, the area features fine dining, outlet shops and the beaches of Lake Wallenpaupack as well as spas such as the Skyview Spa at Skytop Lodge and the Laurel Spa at Pocono Manor Resort

While in the area, couples have a plethora of entertainment options to make as the centerpiece of their visit including the Mount Airy Casino Resort, Poconos Raceway or Penn's Peak concert venue which features comedy country and rock performances from national acts such as Steven Wright, Air Supply and John Montgomery.

    Laurel Highlands

    • For couples that find outdoor activities an imperative part of their romantic getaway, the Laurel Highlands in southwestern Pennsylvania offers many opportunities for boating, hiking, and skiing. The area is home to Seven Springs Ski Resort, the most popular skiing getaway in western Pennsylvania. The Youghiogheny River gives guests their fix for whitewater rafting, hiking and camping.

But, the area isn't just for outdoor enthusiasts. The pride and joy of the Laurel Highlands are the architectural marvels, Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob, both built by Frank Lloyd Wright. Although there are a number of hotel and bed and breakfast options for any budget, the crown jewel for accommodations is Nemacolin Woodlands Resort with its luxurious rooms, relaxing spa facility, golf courses and fine dining.
