Antarctica has no cities, no permanent residents, and no commercial tourism infrastructure—yet it offers some of Earth’s most otherworldly sights. Visitors arrive via expedition ships (Nov–Mar) or fly-in camps. Here’s what draws them.

Natural Wonders

• Icebergs: Cathedral-sized tabular bergs calved from ice shelves; some >100 km long. Sculptural blues, arches, caves.
• Glaciers & Ice Shelves: Massive rivers of ice (e.g., Lambert Glacier—world’s largest, 400 km+). Crevasse fields, seracs, calving fronts.
• Mountains: Mount Vinson (4,892m / 16,050 ft)—highest peak, Seven Summits. Ellsworth Mountains, Transantarctic Mountains divide the continent.
• Wildlife: Emperor & Adélie penguins (colonies of 100k+), Weddell, Leopard, Crabeater seals, Humpback, Minke, Orca whales (summer feeding). Zero fear of humans.

Human Heritage
