Why do people want to take minerals from Antarctica?
There are no known commercially viable mineral deposits in Antarctica. While there are certain minerals present on the continent, including iron ore, copper, chromium, molybdenum, and coal, most of these resources are in small quantities and difficult to extract due to the extreme environmental conditions.
The Antarctic Treaty, an international agreement, prohibits any form of commercial exploitation of Antarctic resources, including mineral extraction. The primary focus of human activities in Antarctica is scientific research and environmental protection.
