Ivory Coast (Côte d'Ivoire) is located on the continent of Africa, specifically on the Gulf of Guinea coast of West Africa. It sits roughly between latitudes 4° and 11°N and longitudes 2° and 9°W.
The country shares land borders with five nations:
The terrain transitions from a coastal lagoon region in the south, through a dense tropical rainforest belt, to a savanna plateau in the north. The Bandama River is the longest, draining much of the interior. The capital, Yamoussoukro, is inland; the economic hub and largest city, Abidjan, sits on the Ébrié Lagoon near the coast.
