Why did Germans come to Johannesburg?

The main reason Germans came to Johannesburg is because of the discovery of gold on the Witwatersrand in 1886. This sparked a huge gold rush, and people from all over the world flocked to the area in search of wealth. Germans were among the first to arrive, and they played a significant role in developing the mining industry in South Africa. Many German immigrants had mining experience that would prove valuable in extracting the large veins of gold found in the Witwatersrand gold reef (known in Afrikaans as the Rand or Reef). German miners brought advanced methods of excavation along with the equipment, techniques, and management practices in use in German industry during this era.
