A Shared Feature of Asia, Africa, and North America: Deserts
All three continents host major desert ecosystems:
- Asia: Gobi Desert (Mongolia/China) – 1.3M km², cold winter desert.
- Africa: Sahara Desert – 9.2M km², world's largest hot desert.
- North America: Mojave Desert (CA/AZ/NV/UT) – 124,000 km², includes Death Valley (hottest recorded). Also Sonoran, Chihuahuan, Great Basin.
Other shared features: mountain ranges, river systems, coastal zones, biodiversity hotspots, indigenous cultures, colonial histories—but deserts are the most striking biogeographic commonality.
