Traditions and Customs in Liberia

Liberia's cultural tapestry includes many distinctive traditions:

1. Handshake with a bow: Respectful greeting, especially to elders.
2. Traditional attire: Vibrant colors, headwraps; men wear robes with "lappa" wraps, women wear long dresses with headwraps.
3. Respect for elders: Children speak politely, assist, and seek guidance.
4. Storytelling: Oral tales, proverbs, history passed down with music, dance, drama.
5. Dance & music: Sande, Kpelle dances; drums, rattles, xylophones, harps.
6. Hospitality: Guests welcomed with food and drink; refusing is disrespectful.
7. Naming ceremonies: On the eighth day, names with cultural/spiritual significance are given.
