German is a recognized national language in Namibia due to the country's history as German South West Africa (1884–1915). Key factors include:

• Education system: Colonial schools taught in German, creating a generation of Namibians fluent in the language.
• Cultural imprint: Place names (e.g., Windhoek, Swakopmund), architecture, festivals (e.g., Windhoek Karneval), and family names remain German.
