Who did Algeria gain their independence from?

Algeria gained its independence from France. Following its conquest by France in 1830, Algeria became an integral part of France rather than a colony, with French settlers displacing or marginalizing the Muslim Algerian population. On July 5, 1962, through the Évian Accords, Algeria officially proclaimed its independence, ending eight years of the Algerian War with France.
