Why are cacti rare in Africa?

Cacti are not rare in Africa. In fact, there are over 1,500 species of cacti native to Africa, making it the second-most diverse region for cacti in the world after the Americas. Cacti are found in a variety of habitats in Africa, including deserts, savannas, grasslands, and even rainforests. Some of the most well-known African cacti include the barrel cactus, the prickly pear cactus, and the candelabra cactus.
