Why did Africans in South Carolina developed a more independent slave culture than other southern colonies?

There is no evidence that Africans in South Carolina developed a more independent slave culture than other Southern colonies. In fact, South Carolina was one of the most repressive colonies in the South, with some of the harshest slave codes and the highest rates of slave resistance.
