Lokoja: Nigeria's Confluence Town

Lokoja (Kogi State capital) is the confluence town where the Niger and Benue rivers meet—a dramatic Y-shaped junction visible from Mount Patti.

  • Founded 1857 as British trading post / admin center.
  • Capital of Northern Nigeria Protectorate (1900–1914).
  • First colonial capital of Nigeria (1914, before move to Calabar then Lagos).

Today: gateway to Abuja, iron/steel complex (Ajaokuta nearby), agriculture, tourism (confluence view, colonial relics, Mount Patti hike).
