What are the yams in Sri Lanka?
In Sri Lanka, the most commonly cultivated yam is the Dioscorea alata, also known as the water yam or greater yam. Other yam species grown in the country include the Dioscorea bulbifera (air potato), Dioscorea esculenta (Chinese yam), and Dioscorea rotundata (white yam). These yams are widely consumed in various forms, such as boiled, roasted, fried, or as an ingredient in curries and stews.
