What is the official religion of Benin?

There is no official religion in Benin. The constitution establishes the freedom or the exercise of religion, and religious communities are legally recognized and are exempt from several taxes and tariffs related to imports.

While there is no government-mandated religion, various faith groups hold varying degrees of influence in the country. There is a predominantly Christian south and a predominantly Muslim north, with Christian and Islamic holidays recognized by the government. Many Beninese also practice various forms of traditional African religion.
