Was phoenix always a capital of AZ?
Phoenix was not always the capital of Arizona. When Arizona was admitted to the union in 1912, the territorial capital, Prescott, was designated as the state capital. However, in 1910, the residents of Phoenix voted to hold an election to determine whether the capital should be moved from Prescott to Phoenix. The election was held in 1911, and the voters of Phoenix approved the move. The capital was officially moved from Prescott to Phoenix in 1912, shortly before Arizona's admission to the union.
