Average Temperature in November in St. John, US Virgin Islands

Perhaps the most "virgin" of the U.S. Virgin Islands, St. John is home to a national park covering more than 60 percent of the island. Although the island is also home to up-scale boutiques and luxury accommodations, what really sets St. John apart from the other Virgin Islands is its pristine beaches lined with lush jungles. Best of all, St. John also enjoys a pleasant Caribbean climate year-round, so even visits in the month of November include plenty of sunshine.
  1. Average Temperatures

    • As in much of the Caribbean, temperatures vary little across the year in St. John. Winter temperatures (December to March) average around 78 degrees Fahrenheit, while the summer (June to August) brings a slightly warmer 83 degrees on average during the day. At night, temperatures drop into the low to mid 70s. In the intermediate month of November, you should expect temperatures nearing winter averages with some warmer days. Daytime highs should be around 80 degrees and 4 to 5 degrees cooler at night.

    Rainfall and Winds

    • The trade winds rushing over the island of St. John are an important ingredient in the island's perfect weather. In addition to providing some comforting breezes on the hottest days on the island, the winds also keep the island from being as humid as other destinations in the tropics. November is the final month of the rainy season on St. John (August through November), so you should also expect some scattered rain showers if traveling in November. Fortunately, tropical showers tend to be short and are quickly interrupted by returning sunshine.

    Hurricanes

    • Hurricane season -- the one drawback to the Caribbean climate -- runs from June to November on St. John. The season usually peaks in August and September and islanders even celebrate Hurricane Thanksgiving Day in late October to mark the cultural end of the season, but hurricanes can occur into November. If traveling in November, keep an eye on weather forecasts for incoming storms and you might even consider purchasing traveler's insurance for missed flights and reservations if the hurricane season has been especially active.

    Traveling in November

    • While November includes the tail-end of the rainy and hurricane seasons, pleasant temperatures and reduced tourist traffic can make the month the perfect time for a visit to St. John. The tourist high season begins in December on St. John and lasts until April -- when the island receives huge groups of tourists escaping winter temperatures in the United States and Europe. November is the end of the low season, when temperatures are very pleasant, rates for hotels and tourist services are still lower, and you might even be able to enjoy some privacy on a secluded Caribbean beach.
