Why was taj mahal selected as wonders of the world?

The Taj Mahal was not selected as one of the New7Wonders of the World. It is one of the original Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the list of architectural marvels compiled in the 2nd century BC. The current New7Wonders of the World list includes the Great Wall of China, Christ the Redeemer, Machu Picchu, Petra, Chichén Itzá, Colosseum, and Taj Mahal.
