Who colonised Gambia and when?

The Gambia was colonised by the British Empire in the late 19th century.

The British first established a trading post in the Gambia in 1661, but it was not until the late 19th century that they began to colonise the region. In 1888, the British and French signed a treaty that defined the boundaries of the Gambia and recognised British sovereignty over the region. The Gambia became a British colony in 1894.
