Because Mussoorie sits at the foothills of the Himalayan mountains, you will find an amazing panorama view of bright blue skies contrasting the white tipped, gargantuan mountains. The citizens of Mussoorie celebrate its natural beauty: you will find picnic areas in the Municipal Gardens, ponds with waterfalls for bathing and swimming at Bhatta Falls and a majestic nature walk at Camel's Back Road.
The city was founded in 1825 by a British officer Captain Young, who with his associate Mr. Shore, built a hunting lodge on the site. Today, there are many historical sites to take in, including the home of Sir George Everest (of which Mt. Everest is named) and several Indian temples, including Nag Devta (for the god Shiva) and Jwalaji Temple (for the goddess Durga).
There are many wildlife and nature parks in Mussoorie, of which rare and exotic breeds can be seen. One of the best places to see Himalayan peacocks and rare animals is the Van Chetna Kendra. The best place to see rare species of birds and nearly extinct birds is the Benong Mountain Quail Sanctuary.
