When and how do scientists think that the rosefinch came from Asia to Hawaii?

Scientists believe that the rosefinch made its way from Asia to Hawaii via long-distance dispersal about 3-7 million years ago. It is the only endemic Hawaiian member of the family Fringillidae.

It is theorized that a strong storm carried individuals from eastern Asia across the 4,600 km of open ocean and landed safely among the lush mountainsides of the Big Island of Hawaii where they established populations with no predation pressures and thrived without competition for resources on these young fertile grounds.
