Planets Visible from Dubai with the Naked Eye
Five planets are readily visible from Dubai without optical aid, depending on season and time:
- Mercury – Low in east (dawn) or west (dusk); best during greatest elongation
- Venus – Brilliant "Morning Star" or "Evening Star"; often visible in twilight
- Mars – Reddish; best at opposition (every 26 months); visible much of the year
- Jupiter – Very bright; dominates night sky at opposition; summer/autumn favors viewing
- Saturn – Yellowish; fainter than Jupiter; rings need telescope but planet visible
Viewing Tips for Dubai
- Light pollution: Head to desert outskirts (Al Qudra, Al Ain road) for darker skies
- Apps: Stellarium, SkySafari, or NASA's "Spot the Station" for ISS + planets
- Best windows: Winter evenings (Jupiter/Saturn high); spring dawn (Mercury/Venus)
- Uranus/Neptune: Require binoculars/telescope; not naked-eye
Dubai's low latitude (25°N) means ecliptic rises steeply—good for catching Mercury and Venus in twilight. The dry, clear air (outside summer humidity) enhances transparency.
