Who "Discovered" Kazakhstan? A Historical Perspective

No single person "discovered" Kazakhstan. The region has been inhabited for millennia by successive nomadic cultures: Scythians, Sarmatians, Huns, Göktürks, and later the Kazakh Khanate (15th century). It was gradually incorporated into the Russian Empire (18th–19th centuries) and then the Soviet Union. Modern Kazakhstan emerged as an independent nation in 1991. The concept of "discovery" reflects a colonial lens; the land and its peoples have a deep, continuous history long before European contact.
