Why did the county of Europe want to colonize Asia?

There is no evidence to suggest that Europe wanted to colonize Asia. In fact, it was the other way around. Asia was the more powerful and technologically advanced continent for much of history, and it was European powers that sought to colonize Asia in the 16th century and beyond.
