What country in Southeast Asia remained independent why?

Thailand (formerly Siam) is the only country in Southeast Asia that has never been colonized by a European power.

Thailand has a long history of independence, dating back to the founding of the Sukhothai Kingdom in 1238. The kingdom was able to maintain its independence through a combination of factors, including:

- Strategic location: Thailand is located in the center of Southeast Asia, which made it difficult for European powers to invade.

- Strong military: Thailand had a strong military that was able to repel European invasions.

- Diplomatic skills: The Thai government was able to negotiate treaties with European powers that prevented them from colonizing the country.

In addition, Thailand benefited from the rivalry between European powers. France and Britain were the two main colonial powers in Southeast Asia, and they were often at odds with each other. This prevented them from cooperating to colonize Thailand.

As a result of these factors, Thailand was able to maintain its independence and become the only country in Southeast Asia that was never colonized by a European power.
