Interesting Places in India

India is a country in southern Asia with a population of 1.1 billion, according to 2007 statistics from the Population Reference Bureau. The country is surrounded by the Himalayas on the north and the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal in the south. There are interesting places in India for travelers to explore history and culture.
  1. Kerala

    • Kerala is a state in India. It is home to Dhoni, a forest featuring a waterfall and a farmhouse, and the Parambikkulam Wildlife Sanctuary, which has Nilgiri langur, cane turtles, gaur and wild boar.

    Agra

    • Agra is a city on the banks of the Yamuna River in the state of Uttar Pradesh. It has a water garden, Mehta Bagh, and a red sandstone tomb built in 1611 A.D., Mariyam's Tomb, part of a larger structure, the Taj Mahal.

    Goa

    • In Goa, tourists can take crocodile cruises in the backwaters; visit temples and masjids, such as the Shree Mahalaxmi Temple and the Safa Shahouri Masjid; go for a picnic at Carambolin Lake; and go bird-watching at the Bhagwan Mahavir Sanctuary.

    Rajasthan

    • The largest state in India, Rajasthan features palaces, including the Umaid Bhawan Palace and Lake Palace; camel desert safaris; and a variety of festivals, including a women's festival called the Teej Festival.

    Varanasi

    • Varanasi is a holy city located in the state of Uttar Pradesh. It is home to the River Ganga, a 1,557-mile-long river where many people take pilgrimages; the Chandraprabha Sanctuary, which is near forests and waterfalls; and Hindu festivals, such as the Mahashivaratri festival, which celebrates Lord Shiva.
