Why Bangkok known as city of angels?
The literal meaning of Bangkok in Thai is "village of wild plums". The actual origin of the name is unclear and several theories exist. However, one of the most popular theory relates to the city's role as an important trading center in the 17th century. During that time, Bangkok was under the rule of King Prasat Thong. It is believed that the king named the city "Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayutthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit". This name is considered the longest place name in the world, and it roughly translates to "City of Angels, Great City, City of Immortals, Grand City, City of Gems, Impregnable City, Royal Capital, Abode of the Emerald Buddha, Grand Palace, Royal Residence, and Home to the Reincarnated Spirit of God".
In short, the name "City of Angels" comes from the longer official name of Bangkok and represents the city's religious and cultural significance, as well as its status as a revered and holy place.
