When did Hanoi become the capital of Vietnam?

Hanoi became the capital of Vietnam in 1976, after the reunification of North and South Vietnam. Prior to that, Hanoi was the capital of North Vietnam while Saigon (now Ho Chi Minh City) was the capital of South Vietnam.
