Is Beijing zoo the biggest in China?

Beijing Zoo, also known as the Beijing Zoological Park, is one of the largest, oldest, and most popular zoos in China. However, it is not the biggest. The largest zoo in China is the Shanghai Wild Animal Park, located in Shanghai.

Spanning over 159 hectares (393 acres), the Shanghai Wild Animal Park houses a diverse collection of over 20,000 animals, representing more than 600 species. It consists of several themed zones, including a large safari park where visitors can observe animals in naturalistic habitats from the comfort of their own vehicles. The park is home to many rare and endangered species, including giant pandas, golden monkeys, and red-crowned cranes.

In comparison, Beijing Zoo covers an area of approximately 89 hectares (220 acres) and holds around 500 species of animals. While still an impressive and substantial zoo, it is smaller in size and animal count compared to the Shanghai Wild Animal Park.

Therefore, while Beijing Zoo is one of the most famous and well-known zoos in China, the title of the biggest zoo in the country goes to the Shanghai Wild Animal Park.
