Are there magical beings associated withchristmas in Brazil?

Yes, there are! They are known as "duendes de Natal" - or "Christmas elves". Their origin can be traced back to the European folklore but they do have some very Brazilian characteristics. As an example, instead of the pointed hats and green clothes most people associate with elves we know they use white linen pants and straw hats - similar to what Brazilian fishermen in the northeast still wear!
