Driving from Anchorage, AK to Wausau, WI: Not Possible by Road
There is no road connection between Alaska and the contiguous United States that allows a continuous drive to Wisconsin. The Alaska Highway ends in Dawson Creek, BC; from there you must either:
- Ship your vehicle (barge from Whittier/Anchorage to Bellingham/Seattle, ~2 weeks, $2,500–$4,000), then drive ~2,100 mi to Wausau.
- Fly – Anchorage (ANC) → Chicago (ORD) or Minneapolis (MSP) → drive 200 mi to Wausau. Flight ~6.5 hrs + 3 hr drive.
Straight-line (great-circle) distance: ~3,200 mi (5,150 km). "4,000 miles" often cited includes highway detours.
