Tasmanian devils are marsupials. After a 3‑week gestation, the mother gives birth to rice‑grain‑sized joeys (<1 g). They crawl into her pouch, attach to one of four teats, and stay ~4 months, developing fur, opening eyes, and venturing out briefly. At ~4 months they leave the pouch permanently but remain with the mother for several more months learning to hunt.
