How Old Is the Australian Lungfish?

The Australian lungfish (Neoceratodus forsteri) is a "living fossil." Its lineage (order Ceratodontiformes) dates to the Late Devonian (~360 million years ago). It diversified in freshwater until ~80 million years ago; today it's the sole survivor of its once-diverse group. Individual fish can live 50–100+ years in captivity.
