Tasmania's Extreme Heat Records: Up to 42.2°C (108°F)

While Tasmania's climate is generally cool temperate, recent heatwaves have pushed records:

  • 25 Jan 2019: Scamander hit 42.2°C (108°F) — all-time state record.
  • 28 Jan 2020: Cygnet reached 41.4°C (106.5°F); widespread low-40s.
  • 26 Jan 2013: Swansea recorded 40.8°C (105.4°F) — previous record.

Average summer highs are 15–25°C (59–77°F). These extremes reflect climate change amplification; Tasmania still far cooler than mainland Australia.
