Do you have to vote in Australia if over seventy?

In Australia, voting is compulsory for all eligible citizens over the age of 18, including those over the age of seventy.

A failure to vote without a valid and sufficient reason or excuse may result in a fine being issued. However, there are certain exemptions and reasons for non-voting that may be accepted, such as serious illness, being out of the country on election day, or having a relevant disability. If a person over seventy has a valid reason for not voting, they can apply for an exemption or postal vote from the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC).
