When did the Japanese first migrate to Australia?

The Japanese did not migrate to Australia in any significant numbers until after World War II. The first Japanese immigrants arrived in Australia in the 1880s, but their numbers remained small. It was not until the 1960s and 1970s that significant numbers of Japanese began to migrate to Australia, and they have continued to do so ever since.
