For example, young people under the age of 18 are not allowed to work:
- In any job that is considered dangerous, such as working with machinery or chemicals.
- In any job that involves working in a confined space, such as a tank or a silo.
- In any job that involves working with flammable materials, such as petrol or gas.
- In any job that involves working with explosives.
- In any job that involves working with electricity.
Young people under the age of 18 are also limited in the number of hours that they can work. They can only work:
- A maximum of 40 hours per week during school holidays.
- A maximum of 20 hours per week during the school term.
- No more than 8 hours in any one day.
- No more than 4 hours on a school day.
There are also restrictions on the times that young people can work. They can only work:
- Between the hours of 6am and 6pm on school days.
- Between the hours of 6am and 10pm on non-school days.
These restrictions are in place to protect the health and safety of young people.
