Quebec held sovereignty referendums in 1980 (60/40 No) and 1995 (50.58/49.42 No). No vote occurred in 2007. The province remains part of Canada under the Constitution Act 1982. Secession would require a clear majority on a clear question, followed by negotiations per the Supreme Court's 1998 Reference Re Secession of Quebec.
