Why Most Quebecers Have French Ancestry

Quebec's French ancestry stems from the colony of New France (early 17th century). The bulk of French immigration occurred in the 17th–18th centuries. By 1763, the population was ~65,000, largely French Catholic. Despite British conquest, French language and culture persisted.
