How did Yorkton Saskatchewan get its name?

The city of Yorkton, Saskatchewan derives its name from the historic County of York in England. The initial settlers in the Yorkton area, mainly from Ontario and Quebec, wanted to honour their roots and heritage, and therefore named their new community Yorkton. It's worth noting that Yorkton is known as the "Gateway to the Parkland," reflecting its location at the edge of the Aspen Parkland region, which is known for its picturesque combination of forests, grasslands, and parkland.
