What does Jamaica mean from Esperanza Rising?

In "Esperanza Rising", Jamaica is the name of the ranch owned by the landowners that Esperanza's father works for in Mexico. The events in the beginning of the book take place on the ranch, and it sets the stage for Esperanza's journey throughout the rest of the story.
